Project 1: Teaching English in Nepal

In Nepal, English has become a significant skill for obtaining a job in recent years. However, it is still not yet a mandatory subject in the primary school curriculum. Poor families cannot afford to provide private English education for their children. Nevertheless, your role as a volunteer there can make a difference to those children’s future.

As a volunteer, you will be teaching students at private and public schools five days a week and 5 to 6 hours a day. You need to prepare to teach English through a variety of methods, including dramas, debates, games and songs. There may also be an opportunity for you to teach other subjects, such as mathematics, art, music and sports. Course materials will be provided.

Project 2: Community Development in Nepal

Nepal is a country vulnerable to natural disasters. Many schools and basic infrastructures are easily damaged due to floods, landslides and earthquakes. As a result, children are forced to leave schools because of the unfavorable studying environment.

As a volunteer in the Community Development Project, you will take part in the basic infrastructure construction. This would involve building schools, learning centers, public toilets and gardens, as well as repairing based on some traditional construction methods. Relax! No special skill or prior knowledge is required as you will just be told to do work such as digging, mixing sand and cement, carrying  bricks and painting buildings. It does not need much training or skill. But it will be a good chance for you to make an important contribution to the people in Nepal. Not only can you know more about the Nepalese culture, but also immerse in the local community development by working with the locals.
